Direction
Matthias J. Pearson Architect is a multi-disciplinary design studio established in 2002. Known for thoughtful and disciplined solutions, the studio seeks to practice holistic design creating buildings and spaces that inspire, are responsive to the natural and built context, meet functional needs, and reduce energy demand. Matt Pearson, owner and principal, began work in architecture in 1980 and has been in an architect’s office, on the construction site, or in school studying or teaching design and construction since that time. His philosophy of practice is based upon the following principles:
‣An “IDEA” insures design integrity
‣Each of us possess unique attributes
‣The site is a primary source of design direction
‣The client’s program, budget and time must be respected
‣The flow and connectedness of spatial experience adds richness
‣Green strategies are integral to successful design solutions
The work of the studio is illustrates the conviction that good design and green design are really one and the same. Enduring green solutions grow out of the importance of place, livability, quality, conservation and abundance.
While Pearson’s experience covers a wide range, he has particular expertise in residential, educational and religious building types. His experience working and teaching in construction also gives him a unique perspective on design, particularly in construction methodology and constructibility, and the ability to knowledgeably engage clients and contractors.
